White Raven Temple Project

It is the pleasure of Temple Crew Local 523 to introduce the first-ever Temple for the Portland Burning Man Regional, SOAK. A crew of volunteers has designed and is now constructing the White Raven Temple for installation and ultimately incineration at this year’s regional event.

Several native legends credit the White Raven for bringing light to the world by freeing the sun, moon, and stars which were locked away by an evil being. In the course of the heroic deed the White Raven was turned to black. Although he brought light to the world, some also believe that the sighting of a White Raven signifies the world’s impending end.

Dark to Light. Birth to Death. Terrestrial to Celestial. The White Raven Temple will be a place of transitions; a place where inception ultimately circles to meet its own conclusion, only to begin again anew. Early Sunday morning somewhere between the end of night and the start of day the White Raven Temple, which started life as nothing more than a thought, will be reduced to nothing but a memory by the cleansing power of fire. Beginning to end to beginning, once more.

Temple Crew Local 523 will be raising funds for this project in a number of ways:

We are holding a fundraiser on May 5th: The Negro y Blanco Cinco de Mayo Fiesta, with food, festivities, raffle and silent auction. We have some amazing items for auction, which you can check out in advance of our event on the Auction page of this site.

Items like a Stumptown Kilt, fire tools, an evening’s limousine rental, authentic steampunk goggles and other hand-crafted goods are just a few of the things that will be up for auction, in addition to loads of fantastic services like massages and tattoo sessions.

Additionally, with a donation you can contribute personally to the Temple itself by decorating and installing your own plank to the nest wall.
